ARE YOU IN LOVE?

I am so glad that Jesus loves me,...

All through this week, we’ve used the words of the timeless hymn written almost a century and a half ago by P. P. Bliss to meditate on the unfathomable depths of the love the Father has for us in Christ Jesus.

It is vitally important to the Christian walk for the Believer to always be conscious of this love; for though, like the Sun it continues to shine and faithfully basks the Believer, day turns into night whenever we rotate out of focus with the Son.

That is why Jude 1:21 enjoins us to “Keep yourselves in the love of God;”

The knowledge that God loves you is powerful and life-changing. The Apostle Paul had such a rich experience of this knowledge, which is why he once exclaimed, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?... Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through HIM THAT LOVED US.” (Rom 8:35-37)

The Apostle John is nicknamed “The Beloved” for this same reason. His reputation for being “the disciple whom Jesus loved”, was so intense that the other apostles felt requests to Jesus from him were more likely to get answers than from others, (e.g. John 13:21-26). Nevertheless, there is no evidence that Jesus loved him more than the others, he just was more conscious of it.

As we round up this series, I leave you with the earnest prayer of the Apostle Paul for us:

“For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;

That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge, that you might be filled with all the fullness of God.

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end”  (Eph 3:14-21).
